Top issues during term (5)(Governance)
Funding for the Milwaukee Election Commission
The proposed election budget sits about $1.8 million below 2026 and $400,000 below what the commission requested; speakers asked for full funding at $3.9 million.
Voter registration challenges
No direct cost was reported—mostly a timing headache, not a budget hit.
Public power feasibility study (We Energies municipalization)
Speakers cited 14% pending rate increases and Milwaukee's status as one of the most expensive major U.S. cities for utilities.
Election Commission error on August 11, 2026
No direct cost stated; the underlying fix depends partly on passing a Monday count bill in Madison.
official misconduct sentencing
No big city payout is mentioned—taxpayers mainly cover the prosecution and administrative fallout, plus the cost of eroding trust.
